Official Insignia of the Society of the First Families of New York

The official insignia of the Society of the First Families of New York is based on the Great Seale for the Lord High Admiral James, Duke of York, brother of King Charles II. Charles asserted England’s claim to New Netherland by granting James a patent to the colony. In 1664, James sent a fleet under the command of Richard Nicoll. The Dutch surrendered, English rule was established and the colony was renamed New York.
